I'm not sure exactly what to do here, I've never written one before and I haven't really read any blogs so I'm just gonna wing this thing. I decided to write about something important to me, music.
I want you to sit there and say this word aloud. Music. Let it roll off your tongue and penetrate your thoughts, let it impact your emotions and fill your world, just for a moment. What do you feel when you say it? What do you think? Do you feel that brief warmth in your chest as your favourite song is brought to the foreground of your mind? It's something different for everyone. For some it's a form of entertainment, for some it's a way to become famous and make money, for others it's an emotional outlet or an extension of themselves. For me, it's equivalent to the word life. It has the same meaning, the same value. It's always in my thoughts and brightens me.
I think it's amazing that no matter who you are, where you are, what your feeling, or what language you speak it has the same impact on us all. It's powerful and we are all impacted. The softest, sweetest chords can bring tears to your eyes, the most carefree lyrics make you feel light and giddy, the beat causes you to dance like an idiot, the emotion causes you to connect with the artist and allows you a brief moment to understand them. It can be as simple as plucking a string, pressing a valve, hitting a drum, or singing do, re, mi, and can be as hard as horn rips, knowing how to count certain time signatures and play a piece with all the sharps and a million accidentals, all compiled of eighth notes. It's diverse, subjective, universal and the most common way to communicate with other people. You don't have to speak the same language or live in the same culture to appreciate a musical artist, you just have to be open and listen.
